WSP’s corporate vision is “to be the outstanding supplier of specialist and integrated services in the built and natural environment”. Underpinning this are five core values one of which is ‘sustainability’.
We believe our long term success will depend upon us making sustainability an integral part of how we operate as a global business. This is about how we operate on a day to day basis and how we deliver strategies and solutions for our clients in an increasingly carbon and water constrained world.
There are growing expectations being placed upon our industry to design and construct the environmentally and socially beneficial buildings, infrastructures, industrial processes and transport networks that a truly sustainable future will require. It is here where we believe WSP has the potential to make the most significant positive economic, environmental and social impact.
Over the past year we have launched our sustainability strategy which guides our businesses globally. Our objectives are to:
- Embed sustainability into the technical expertise, advice and solutions we provide to our clients
- Develop and enhance our sustainability capabilities and client offerings to open up new markets and commercial opportunities
- Actively manage the environmental and social impacts of our own operations for the benefit of all our stakeholders
- Be an active and beneficial participant in the communities in which we operate
Details of the progress we have made over the last year can be found in our latest Sustainability Report, part of the WSP Annual Report & Account for 2008. The 2008 Sustainability Report is available for download from this page - please see the righ-hand side link.
This updates our stakeholders on how we are implementing the concepts of sustainable development in our internal business practices (for example procurement, energy management and business integrity), the design and delivery of our projects, the relationships we maintain with clients and local communities around the world and how we provide a safe and stimulating workplace for our people.
We undertake to continue to provide updates on the progress we are making in this area. We also welcome feedback from our stakeholders on the progress we have made so far.
